Christmas books

To me,  it’s not Christmas unless you get books! Last year I got a kindle from my parents but I do still like getting paperbacks. Nothing will ever replace the book in my heart!

This year I got 3 amazing books from family.

A classic in a new and beautifully designed hardback cover- The Wizard of Oz!

A book for the adventurous cook- that’s definitely not me really,  but it might coax me into being a little more adventurous in the kitchen! This book is cute because it has pink edged pages too!

from the author of ‘the Hundred year old man who climbed out of the window and disappeared’,  I’m really excited to read ‘the girl who saved the king of Sweden’.  If you’ve never heard of the former it’s an amazing read! A wonderfully refreshing tale of adventure through hour history as we know it….

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and got the books you wanted,  too!

All hail the unicorn

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how awesome this JOY unicorn jumper is?

It was one of my prize items from the JOY pinterest competition they announced the winners of last week. (more to come on that…)

It retails at £45 but they have just launched their end of season sale.  So go check out their website and see if you can get it cheaper!

JOY Pinterest Competition – I won!

I am so excited – yesterday I was contacted by JOY to say they loved my pinterest board and that I had won their £250 giveaway! The stuff is on it’s way to me right now, but I thought I would let you peek at my board first, before I post about my new clothes!

They have some amazing dresses in, this one is my absolute favourite though, I cannot wait to wear it!

What do you think of my board?

Skin trouble!

I hate it when you see a blogger say the words “oh excuse the photo,  I look awful!” and they look fucking fantastic.

I am having a TERRIBLE skin week –  you know how it can get at THAT time…  So I thought well a perfect time to test how good the Body Shop BB cream is!

Here is the woeful “before” photo.

I thought it looked rather dark out of the bottle….

I really liked the consistency –  it contains Vitamin E apparently. As you can see from the photo it’s not a heavy coverage,  typical of a BB cream really,  but you can see that my complexion in visibly brightened. I could happuly use this on a no makeup day. You can buy it here – Body Shop have 40% off most of the time recently.

What do you think? Any recommendations for me?

Manicure Monday – Nightshade

UPDATE: this polish chips easily! SAD FACE!

Good evening! Sorry to be blogging so late but as it was Monday and I was doing  a manicure I thought,  hey! It’s manicure Monday!

I paint my nails A LOT.  I own a lot of polishes and the vast majority of them are BarryM.

I blogged earlier today about my beauty buys from Superdrug – among them was this BarryM polish in a shade I’d never seen before,  ‘Nightshade’.

In the bottle the shade appears to have a purple tinge so I was excited to try it.  The bottle lid is matte as well which lead me to believe it was z  matte finish polish.  It isn’t.

In reality though it’s really just a black polish,  although it applied really well.  I normally have such a headache with black polish but this one was no trouble really.

I’m wearing two coats with a top coat from 17 @ Boots.

Have you got a shade that better fits the description ‘Nightshade’?

Manicure of the day

I blogged earlier this week about my Boots purchases, when I bought this BarryM original “black top” edition nail polish.  I say original because they have released so many awesome collections recently their “black top”  collection hasn’t been on my radar.  Still,  as a basic shades go they have an amazing  range of colours and I doubt my collection will be anywhere near complete anytime soon!

The shade I am switching is simple called ‘mint green’.

At first I was not convinced it would cover enough in two coats,  but I was proven wrong !

Amazing colour,  and really impressed with the finish.  Pictured wearing two coats and a top coat.

Beauty Reveiw : BarryM Showgirl Mascara

I decided I wanted a new mascara as the one I currently use is a small sample form Estee Lauder. I do love it but it’s very full coverage and I wanted to save it for special occasion or evening wear. I also didn’t really want to pay an arm and a leg for one. So I picked up this one!

  • Packaging gets top marks – I love the shiny pink and rather heavy bottle/case it comes in.
  • Application – smooth and non-clumpy.
