Jake Shoes Review

I’d love to begin this blog post with a happy birthday shoutout to Jake Shoes, an independent shoe retailer based in the North West, with bases in Stockport and Manchester City Centre. they celebrate 40 years of business this year, staying strong when many small independents have been closing down. I support small businesses however I can as a blogger, and in the run up to Christmas, shopping small and local is more important than ever!

I’m rather sheepish to say that I didn’t get them a gift for their birthday, but instead they sent me a very generous gift which I’m sharing with you today.

These amazing Vagabond Chelsea boots!

Jake Shoes Vagabond Boots

Chelsea boots are a wardrobe staple, and I have to admit I’ve been hankering after a pair for a while. I’m rather fussy with boots – high street copies of real leather styles just don’t cut it, both visually and in terms of how they feel on your feet.

These Chelsea boots are real leather, and after wearing them in with extra thick socks I can envisage them being comfortable for years to come.

the elastic around the ankle is robust yet gives enough for me to tuck in my jeans. I love the rich tan colour of the leather, they are perfect for autumn days, and will carry me well into winter and spring with the durable heels and soles. They are available in various other colours and styles, too.

I found them pleasantly neat on my feet – as a size 7 chunky boots make me feel rather stomp-y.

I styled them with my skinny jeans from Next and my zip grey tee from M&S.

I made my selection by using their new website, which is easy to navigate and filter down to style or brand of my choosing.

Jake Shoes do their own designs as well, which you can browse on their website – I must admit I’ve got my eye on a few pairs of shoes at the moment!

Thank you so much to Jake Shoes for the opportunity to write for them. It’s always great to support Manchester Businesses, and see the Northern powerhouse growing.

The boots were selected by me and sent as a gift from Jake Shoes, however all opinions are my own!

boden shoes Alice heel

Boden Alice Heel

Yesterday, I posted about my Boden sale pick in the form of my Scallop Sweater. I also bought some fantastic shoes at the same time – so fantastic in fact, that they deserved their own blog post. I’m talking about the Alice Heel of course, possibly the most instagrammed shoes this season!

I can totally understand how – they’re probably the prettiest shoes I could have imagined! Polka dot, bows, tassles grouped with a cute pastel colour palette. Again, as I mentioned in my last post, I wasn’t tempted to buy the with their hefty price tag of £119.00. Yes. they are beautiful, but realistically, how often will I wear them?! Apart from this blog post and for my holiday in a couple of weeks (that’s if my husband doesn’t laugh too much when I wear them, mind) probably not very often.

Therefore, the sale price of £35.70 was a lot more palatable for my bank account. You can shop the Alice shoe in this colour and also 3 other styles by clicking here. They do a sensible black and beige pair (reduced to £47.60), but where’s the fun in that, I ask? This post serves as a shameless deposit for colour popping images of these absolutely delightful heels! Enjoy…

Good afternoon!

It looked a little cool and breezy outside today so I opted for my long sleeve top from Primark –  when the sun is out its actually quite hot! I bought this huge purple-blue hydrangea bloom from an amazing florist in my local shopping centre for £3! It was so beautiful I demanded to have my husband take photographs!

jasper James brogues shoes

Leather Brogues by Jasper James

My favourite kind of special finds are those you weren’t even looking for in the first place. You might remember I blogged about my new Clarks handbag a few weeks ago, and ever since I have been keeping an eye out to find some shoes to pair with the bag, that weren’t dark and oppressive for Spring.

I wandered into my local TKMaxx on an alternative mission to find my husband some jeans and found these gorgeous flats made from real leather, for £39.99.

(Update September 2015 : I bought some more – click here to see them!)

I cannot find anything out about the brand  Jasper James of Shoreditch online, so if you know anything let me know – I’d like to be able to give them recognition for such beautiful shoes! Also they tend to be small sizes, these are a UK 8 and I normally take 6.5-7! That said, the leather did soften after some hours of wear, and they are my go-to shoes for throwing on with almost any outfit – probably the most comfortable and versatile pair of fashion shoes I own!

New Shoes : Lotta from Stockholm Clogs

After chatting with a Swedish colleague about Swedish clogs, I had a bit of a browse on the web. Swedish Hasbeens are big in this area of the shoe market, but to be honest for me they were just tooooo expensive – true to the namesake of my blog, I sought out thriftier sources for my shoe fix!

I found Lotta from Stockholm stocked super-cute clogs in so many different styles and colours for a fraction of the price of Swedish Hasbeens.

I chose red leather peep toe clogs at £61.10 inclusive of delivery. They arrived in 2 days much to my excitement!!!

I couldn’t resist whipping off my other shoes to try them on immediately! They were clearly handmade and of excellent quality. I have to say that for solid wooden soles they are very comfortable, though you might have to get used to the adjustment of walking gait given their inflexibility.

I totally want to add loads more pairs to my collection, though as wardrobe space is limited at the moment I think I might have to postpone!

Coming soon on the blog – a review of a dress sent to me by lucylovesvintage.co.uk

Next Footwear A/W 2014 – Sparkles, glitter and kitties, oh my!

Good afternoon lovelies! I can’t believe it’s monday again… recently I’ve felt like I’ve been hit by a bus on monday mornings. As the cold is setting in and the stress of a new job my shoulders are all tense and stiff – might be on the market for some nice Lush massage bars!

Anyway, to brighten your monday, I thought I would share this amazing edit of Next’s A/W shoe collection. I love sparkly things – call me a magpie! I’ve spotted a few pictures on Instagram of shoes from Next, but they must be sneak peeks for S/S as I cannot find them on the website.

What I did find though, were these beauties! perfect for any upcoming events this season.

#1. Animal flats

Who doesn’t love cats? Or foxes? PANDAS?! I must have struck something – Next have got some super cute kitty flats (Charlotte Olympia-esque, but for a fraction of the price). They also have fox flats and Panda flats! How adorable!

#2. Silver flats

Silver shoes are awesome. Full stop. I love chunky soles and pointed toes, great with tights and dressed or with jeans. Below are my 2 favourite pairs.

#3: Last but not least…. glitter block heels!

These are just plain amazing. I don’t need to say anymore on these.

What do you think?

I’m waiting for a couple of weeks before I go out shopping again, but I am desperately in need of new underwear… Debenhams here I come! I’m working away form home for a few days, so I won’t post again unless I get struck by inspiration. Why not keep up with what I’m up to on Instagram?

Have a stress-free and productive Monday, folks! xx

Handmade in Barcelona : The most beautiful Shoes…

If you’ve never visited Etsy, then my friend you are in for a treat. What is this magical place, you say? Only the most amazing internet marketplace, full of whimsical and wonderful handmade items.

I am writing a blog post on the stunning handmade shoe store, Elehandmade. Based in Barcelona, the store makes beautiful handcrafted real leather shoes – even to order!

Cute flats and loafers with fringe detail, heart peeptoe – you name it. I warn you, they’re cute and pretty affordable. What I liked best was the range of colours and shapes- I think my favourite is the heart-bow pair in red, though the bright orange ones are a contender!

Debenhams Sale – Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!

What began as an innocent jaunt to peruse the Lingerie in hope of something passable for Bridal underwear (mission successful by the way), ended up as a shoe fest. Not only was there up to 70% off on all sale items, but it was also buy 1 get one half price. I had a good old browse with my mother, and between us we did pretty well.

I came away with these Red Herring Brogues, silver with awesome purple soles. £32 RRP (which would normally deter me) but at £9.60 it was less of an overhead! I wore them for the first time today with black tights and a navy dress, but I can imagine them going with lots of other things very nicely in my wardrobe.

The second pair were simple Aztec patterned pumps from Faith. I always seem to burn through flat shoes, so it’s worthwhile getting myself a few pairs at once when they’re on sale so I can rotate them, and have a few pairs that thus last me longer.

2014-08-17 20.27.11

Finally I picked up some lovely Faith Heels in grey snakeskin that would be perfect for the office! Contrary to this link that I found, I actually paid in the region of £13 for them. In total, with the offer, I paid approximately £30 for three pairs of lovely shoes!

So what do you think? Have you found any amazing offers lately? It’s worth mentioning that this offer of buy one get one half price extends to the clothing sale as well!!!
