Hi Everyone!

Very excited to bring you a new Etsy Spotlight feature today! This is where I feature items from a small business Etsy store to help them to get recognition for the awesome work they do and the beautiful items they create with their talented hands.

Martin Tomsky makes the most beautiful nature inspired brooches, laser cut from wood and shaded to give depth and texture to his pieces. The main inspiration is woodland animals that you might find in England – I couldn’t resist the rather handsome stag (House Baratheon from Game of Thrones, anyone?) priced at ¬£15.00 and the adorable little mouse brooch, at ¬£10.00.¬†It makes me think of Beatrix Potter, books I loved as a child.

Martin’s store on Etsy also includes some pretty jaw-dropping one-off pieces that are far too intricate and beautiful for words.

He also makes beautiful necklaces (Check out this Owl hunting a mouse!) – going right onto my wishlist!

Continuing the Game of Thrones theme, if you’re more Stark than Baratheon, you could always get a Wolf Brooch instead!

In short, Martin’s creations are stunning, and a must have for any British Nature Lover or Brooch enthusiast. Support Small and shop on Etsy – you can also say Hi to him on Instagram!

Puntastic Greetings Cards by NYC-based Alacarde

puntastic greetings cards by alacarde etsy

Happy Saturday all! Hope you’ve got some exciting things planned for the weekend! Today I’d lvoe to introduce A La Carde to you, a small business based in NYC founded by Nova and Hea-Mi, two fantastically talented artists. I could NOT resist these cards when I saw them; I mean puns are great at the best of times, but these are food related puns! Double win!

I did a short interview with Nova and Hea-Mi about their A La Carde. You can shop their items in their Etsy shop!

A La Carde Contact card

1. What is the main inspiration behind alacarde & tell me about yourselves!

We met at Parsons our freshmen year and have always looked up to each other’s superior craftsmanship and attention to detail. Throughout our college years, we have always made each other handcrafted cards. Also, both of us love food along with sharing a slightly quirky & dorky sense of humor. We went to the Holiday Handmade Cavalcade hosted by Etsy New York a few years back, and we were instantly inspired to start our business. We were confident in our skill sets and felt both of us shared the passion and dedication.

2. How are you inspired to create new designs?

We look through Instagram, Google, Pinterest, Etsy, basically any source you can think of. We do several sketches for each pun and then pick out the ones we feel are strongest.

3. How long does it take to create a unique design from sketch pad to print?

HeaMi: It takes about half an hour to sketch and measure the coordinates for each design. Each card takes a different amount of time depending on the food but usually no more than half an hour.

Nova: Half an hour sounds rather lengthy but we handcraft each card and sleeve and that makes each card very special.

4. Future exciting plans for alacarde? What goals are you aiming towards?

N: Totes magotes! I’m just saying that because we will be selling punny totes soon. Shh, it’s still a secret! But it was something we mentioned during our initial brainstorming process and we’ve discussed about extending the variety of our products.

H: Sell at stationary stores, craft fairs, and hopefully one day having our own workspace!

5.¬†And¬†finally,¬†what¬†is¬†your¬†favourite¬†ever¬†pun?¬†Õĺ)¬†¬†

H:¬†‚ÄúLet’s¬†run¬†away¬†and¬†get¬†married!¬†I’m¬†sorry,¬†but¬†I¬†cantaloupe.‚Ä̬†

N:¬†‚ÄúI‚Äôm¬†tempura¬≠rily¬†in¬†a¬†food¬†coma!‚Ä̬†¬†

Nice to Meat you greetings.thank you card

Etsy Spotlight : Thursday’s Child Design

Happy Friday readers!

Thursday's Child Design header image from website

I am a day out of sync really bringing you another exciting little boutique from Etsy called “Thursday’s Child Design”. Founded by Emma Jones, Thursday’s Child Design is a Cardiff-based jewellery and accessories brand. Wherever possible, sustainable materials are used, and each piece is lovingly handcrafted.

Don’t you just love handmade items?!

June 1st marked the launch of their new summer collection, which you can shop on Etsy right now Рtheir new shiny website is also live!

Emma and I got chatting on Twitter, and she kindly sent over a little bumper back of their summer collection to peek at and review.

adorable packaging!

First was the super stylish and I must say very soft over sized Michaela clutch, in Aubergine. This item is priced at ¬£29.99, is very high quality and so versatile! Personally I don’t get much use out of clutches – I’m a practical gal all around so I will carry bags with straps more often than not. However, this clutch is the perfect size to use as a wash bag, to carry around your makeup, or actually anything you want!

I had a great idea that it would be great for putting in your paperback books or kindle to stop them getting battered! I think this is my favourite use!!!

In the pack also was this bracelet made form recycled jerseys, and a super cute rose gold stud keyring. The bracelet is very soft and pretty, but I don’t like to wear chunky bracelets as I don’t have skinny arms!

The keyring I am rather fond of though, and it looks lovely on my keys!

Pop over and say hi to them on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, and take a look at their items on Etsy, or their website!

Etsy Spotlight : Simply Chic druzy wire ring

Hello lovelies!

Me again with another absolutely stunning etsy spotlight post. This time,  the light shines on Simply Chic Jewellery.

Simply Chic’s primary focus is druzy jewellery,¬† made into earrings,¬† bracelets, necklaces and rings! I was asked to showcase a piece from their collection,¬† so I chose this gorgeous rainbow druzy ring with rose gold wire. It arrived super fast from the USA, too! I think the price is really reasonable, at just over ¬£10 for this gorgeous ring.

You can choose your piece in both the stone and the wire colour (silver, gold or rose gold).
